Written by one virtuoso for another, Henryk Wieniawski's Violin Concerto No. 2 in d minor, Op. 22 was dedicated to the composer's contemporary, the Spanish violinist Pablo de Sarasate. Today it gets considerably more play than the more difficult Concerto No. 1 ; the Concerto No. 2 is a great favorite among advanced students and concert performers alike, probably because of its beautiful, memorable themes. From the restless intensity of the first movement, to the rich romanticism of the second, to the dark frenzy leading into the gypsy rondo of the final movement, the characters of this concerto are certainly compelling, ensuring its staying power in the violin literature. This edition contains editorial markings by A. Pollitzer. Published by Carl Fischer. Difficulty: ASTA grade 5 Click here to learn more about the Apprentice and ASTA Sheet Music Difficulty Ratings.
